More About Donald Wilson
Dr. Donald Wilson, MBA, DBA, C.E.T., MIEEE
Graduated in 1985 with a Diploma in Electronic Technology, Dr. Donald Wilson began his career in technical sales with a local industrial distribution company. Later moving to Vancouver, British Columbia, Don was employed in a technical marketing role at BC Hydro and later employed with SOFTAC Systems in the promotion of systems integration. He completed his Master of Business Administration at Royal Roads University, Victoria, BC, in 2001, and Doctor of Business at the University of Phoenix, in 2009.
Early Career
After being invited to manage a medium-sized electrical repair facility in Winnipeg, MB, Don moved and later took an equity position in the company in 1996. In that role he organized and implemented numerous efforts in the supply and services of motors and drives, including performing many of the start-ups and repairs himself. A decade later Don moved to Edmonton where he served with Siemens Canada in several national roles: a business development manager, a segment manager, a director of Large Drives business unit and completing his work at Siemens as Country Head of Portfolio Companies.
A member of several professional associations, Dr. Wilson has served on the executive of:
- President and Chair, Grain Elevator and Processing Society, (GEAPS), Winnipeg
- Board Member, Manitoba Electrical League (MEL), Winnipeg
- Ex-officio, IEEE Northern Canada Chapter, Industrial Relations, Edmonton
- Chair, Bachelor of Technology Program Advisory, NAIT, Edmonton
- Chair, IEEE, Electrical Safety and Technical Mega-projects, 2012, Edmonton
- President, ASET, 2019, Council member for 10 years, Edmonton
- Two terms on Technology Accreditation Canada board, currently vice-chair
Dr. Wilson is also a member of the adjunct faculty of the Bachelor of Technology program at NAIT, Edmonton, Alberta, instructing Risk Management and Innovation and Change Management in evening and online programs as well as other various courses (2009-present).
DW Strategic
Don most recently started a consulting company with his partner Debra – DW Strategic Inc. which is involved in multiple facets of business and technology including Technical and Business Consulting, as well as Real Estate and Financial Investment holdings. Having completed two post-graduate degrees based upon Engineering Technology base education, Don brings a unique combination and understanding of the needs for large organizations employing technical know-how.
Additional Interests
Dr. Wilson mentors candidates from ASET as well as other mentoring advocacy groups. Don has several other interests including additional study interests in leadership and computing, as well as writing, recording, and performing popular music www.thenameeludesme.com
